Hillcrest High School senior and varsity football player, Erimus Wright, has been named to the All-State Football Team, a testament to his exceptional talent, hard work, and dedication to the sport.
His football career began at the young age of five. After playing football as a young boy for various teams in the south suburbs, Erimus joined Hillcrest’s team when he started high school. Throughout his high school career, Erimus has played as a running back and defensive back, showcasing his versatility and skill.
"Football has always been my passion," said Erimus. "I love the game and the opportunity it gives me to not only excel personally but also to inspire those around me."
Erimus has consistently demonstrated his prowess on the field. Hillcrest Head Coach Kyran Weaver recalls identifying Erimus's potential early on, noting his "gifted size and speed" and his ability to "lock in and just work hard consistently." Coach Weaver emphasized how Erimus's dedication and effort were evident from the start, describing him as "an awesome individual" who consistently met high expectations both academically and athletically.
Earning All-State honors marks a significant milestone for Erimus, who was previously awarded an honorable mention in his junior year. As Coach Weaver noted, "Being named All-State is not just an individual accomplishment; it reflects the hard work and dedication of our entire Hillcrest football community. It shows our athletes what is possible with perseverance and effort."
This year, his relentless dedication paid off, achieving his goal of being named All-State in the highly competitive 5A division. Erimus credits his success to the unwavering support of his coaches, family, and teammates.
"When I received the text from my coach congratulating me on making All-State, I was overwhelmed with joy and gratitude," Erimus shared. "This achievement is a blessing, and I'm incredibly thankful to everyone who believed in me and supported my journey."
Erimus's future plans include playing at the collegiate level. His aspirations extend beyond college as he aims to make a name for himself in the NFL.
"I'm committed to continuing my hard work in college and beyond," Erimus stated. "I want to be a freshman All-American and eventually reach the NFL, putting my name on the map and proving that hard work and determination pay off."
As Erimus prepares for the next chapter of his athletic career, he remains a role model for his peers and an inspiration to aspiring athletes, including his younger brother, Ethan, who looks up to him as a mentor and motivator.
