Last weekend, District 228 had a successful Operation Snowball Retreat! Snowball provided Large Group presentations that addressed topics of coping skills, motivation, grief & loss, drug prevention and gender upstanding. Agencies that provided education during these large groups included Safe Haven Counseling, VITAS Healthcare, See the Poet (Hillcrest graduate), the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists, Lurie Children’s Hospital.
D228 Snowball is also extremely grateful for the help of district staff who took time out of their day to provide our students with workshops in their areas of expertise.

D228 had their Junior Leadership Conference Tuesday at the Bridge Teen Center. This conference had Junior leaders from each school in our district. The day's activities were a combination of idea exchanges, team building opportunities and service project opportunities!
Just before Spring Break, Tinley Park High School's Seekers Diversity Club hosted it's second annual Ramadan Iftar! It was a wonderful evening full of community fun and bonding.
On Saturday, April 6, Congresswoman Robin Kelly (IL-02) will host a Youth Opportunities Fair at Hillcrest High School to connect students with year-round and summer opportunities - including employment, internships, volunteering, and various service programs for youth of all ages. On Friday, Oak Forest High School hosted the first ever Senior Literary Festival in the IMC! Two OFHS graduate authors, Ian Ryan and Bridget Morrissey, spoke at the start of each period, which was then followed by a choice of 15 different activities for students to follow. Students received free, signed copies of their popular books, which can be seen in the images below! We thank them for swinging by, and hope to have them back again!
Hillcrest science courses welcomed an awesome guest from southern Illinois on Thursday! Kim has grown up on a farm and is a third generation farmer. She and her family work tirelessly every year to provide essential crops. While visiting Hillcrest on Thursday, she told students all about the process of farming, the pros and cons, the day-to-day, and why its such an important part of making the world go round. We thank her for making the long journey out here to Hillcrest!
We had a great time hosting the senior citizens breakfast at all four of our high schools today! Thank you to everyone who attended!
Bremen High School District 228 hosted the 50th Annual Keith Anderson Fine Arts Festival at Oak Forest High School on Saturday, March 16th!
All four of our district schools, along with Hillie, Arbor Park, Prairie Hills, Southwood, D143 and Kellar participated in music performances and/or the art display.
Music clinicians Glen Williams and Elise Green were present to provide feedback to the musical ensembles. Art adjudicator Eric Tucker judged the D228 artwork the night earlier and awarded ribbons to all 4 high schools.
Jean Bartecki presented the Eleanor Ferraro Fine Arts Scholarship to four Senior students who plan on pursuing the fine arts in college. This year's recipients were Grace Adams, Princess Sofiyea, Karol Lopez Valadez and Monyrah Tabelin. Congratulations to all who participated!
Bremen High School District 228 hosted its first-ever Battle of the Books competition at Oak Forest High School on Friday! Each school in D228 sent a team of passionate readers who read a number of books for the competition, battling for the chance to win a district trophy. Congratulations to our Hillcrest Hawks for being named our first-ever champions!

Last week, 31 D228 students went through ServSafe Manager Training. A total of 26 students, and Bremen High School's Nurse Pryor, passed the exam on Friday! Congratulations to all!
Hillcrest High School was 1 of 15 high schools in the state of Illinois to participate in the highly sought after NIU Exceptional Anatomy Program! Hundreds of schools across the state apply every year for this one-day, six hour course. This truly was an amazing opportunity for our students!

Congratulations to Oak Forest High School Junior Ryan Lipsett, who has been named to the Creative Visions Mental Health Youth Advisory Committee! This elite committee is composed of teens from all over the United States and is focused on promoting mental health awareness for teens through storytelling and creative expression!

TPHS wrapped up #BlackHistoryMonth with a celebration in the library. There was dancing, games, research displays, a photo shoot, and so much more. This was all organized by this amazing group of dedicated students under the direction of Ms. Baftiri-Ballazhi. #TinleyParkTitans
Oak Forest High School hosted its Cultural Fair on Wednesday! Students came down to the IMC to watch their fellow classmates showcase their cultural food, dance, music and traditions. Many students came dressed in their culture's traditional clothing, representing and celebrating their heritage! #OakForestHighSchool
Tinley Park High School held its annual Black History Month assembly on Thursday! It was a very informative, interactive assembly with a spoken word performance, and performances by the school choir, the Bremen High School Step Team, and Hillcrest High School's cheer team! #BHM
